Who writes this

Janet H. is the hands-on owner behind Janet Media Group and writes every guide and comparison on Cork & Cool. There is one author here, named on every page, with an email address that reaches a person.

That sounds like a low bar. It is not one this category clears. When we surveyed the pages currently ranking for the searches this site targets, four of the nine had no author at all — no name, no byline, nobody accountable for the recommendation. Several were years out of date while still advertising the current year in the title. One was running Amazon affiliate tags with no visible disclosure anywhere on the page.

Why this site exists

Cork & Cool is written for one specific reader: you are buying one wine fridge, probably your first, and you want every plausible model compared on exactly the specifications that decide it. Not a listicle that reads like a press release. Not “top 10 picks” where every unit is somehow excellent.

For a wine fridge, six specs settle the purchase: how many temperature zones, how many bottles it genuinely holds, whether it cools by compressor or thermoelectric module, its exterior width, how loud it is, and how much it vibrates. Everything else on a spec sheet is decoration. So the site is built around those six, across 63 interlinked pages covering wine fridges, built-in and undercounter installations, wine racks, and preservation gear.

What we do, stated exactly

We compare published manufacturer specifications, official product documentation and manuals, and verified owner reports. Every technical claim on this site traces to a source we link, and every page lists its sources at the bottom so you can check our work instead of trusting us.

What we do not do

Stated up front, because the honest version is the useful version:

  • We do not test these units in a lab. Nobody here has run a wine fridge on a bench with a datalogger. If you need instrumented teardown testing, we will point you to someone who does it.
  • We do not hold professional credentials in this field. No sommelier certification, no refrigeration license, no engineering degree. We are not going to invent any, and you should be suspicious of sites in this category that list them without evidence.
  • We do not estimate a specification a manufacturer did not publish. Most manufacturers never publish a decibel figure for a wine fridge. Where that is the case, this site prints “not published by the manufacturer” rather than a plausible number. It is the single most useful thing we do, and the thing our competitors do least.
  • We do not publish prices. They change daily and a stale number helps nobody. Money links go to Amazon, where the current price lives.
  • We do not run testimonials or star ratings. We have no verified customer reviews for this site, so there are none on it.
